This list includes all those individuals and companies who provide hosting services to UK consumers and businesses.
But all claim to offer hosting services.
Among the ruff there are diamonds. We are working to validate the list, but it takes time. After visiting so many hosts our eyes have gone funny and we are speaking 'sales pitch' in our sleep. The list is by no means finalised, but it is still usable and already it achieves much of what we set out to to do. We wanted to provide a central location where you could find all UK hosts. Compare what we have with the other providers of this information and you will see that, even with the imperfections, it is going to save you an inordinate amount of research time. And the future is not as far away as it seems.
How are we going to improve the list? Well the next stage is to contact all those listed to see if they are still providing web hosting services and asking them if they have servers in the UK. Simple is often best, we expect the vast majority to be honest and truthful.
We will also be asking them to declare if they are resellers of packages provided by other hosting companies. Note we do not think there is anything wrong with being a reseller, we just want to know who are, who ultimately provides the hardware and whether it is located in the UK. We believe consumers do not wish to purchase hosting solutions in ignorance of these aspects of their hosting package.
If they are a web design agency, we will ascertain if they only provide hosting for those who make use of their design services, or to anybody who asks.
We will assume that those failing to reply within two weeks no longer provide hosting services. This will be the case if a company has gone out of business, does not wish to be listed, or are just very slow at answering their email. The site will then be updated to reflect the information we have gathered. Many names will be dropped from the list as a result of this validation process.
Listed below and on subsequent pages, are all hosting providers in the UK, at least that we know of so far.
