There are many hosts who provide hosting packages to other companies who then sell these on to consumers and businesses, the packages are referred to as 'reseller packages'. The 'middle men' in all of this are referred to as resellers also, no doubt you can see the potential for confusion here. In this situation the hosting company can be thought of as a wholesaler and the reseller, as a retailer.
This page is not intended for the ultimate consumer of these hosting packages. It is instead for those consumers and companies who wish to purchase reseller packages from hosting companies, with the intention of selling these on to other consumers/companies. On this page is listed those UK hosting providers that have reseller packages specifically aimed at you, the reseller.
As a consumer, should you be worried about buying from a reseller? I do not think so. Many are web design agencies who have experience at using these packages and host many of their own clients quite happily, on all sides of the equation. I do think you should ask and be told, before you enter into any contract, that your expected host is in fact selling on another hosting provider's product. And you should also check to see if you are paying a premium for the pleasure. But if the agency is looking after your site and you do not have the experience to do it yourself then, you should expect to pay for that service.
When every body knows what is going on, its not a problem. The difficulties start when resellers try to hide the fact in the hope of appearing to be what they are not. That is not the way to start a business relationship.
