Virtual Private Server hosting is similar to shared hosting, the difference lies in how many web sites share the same server. In VPS hosting the number of sites is limited and each site is guaranteed a set amount of server resources, such as processor time.

A sophisticated piece of software ensures each site does not hog the server and receives its allocated resources. It is worth checking how the resources are managed. Is the host just limiting the number of sites on the server or is software to enforce the VPS service in operation, if so what is it? Check it out.

VPSs are intended for those who have out grown shared hosting but are not yet ready to go for the full dedicated server. It is a half way house. It should guarantee you more resources, thus eliminating many of the problems associated with shared hosting, while providing a reasonable priced service. If you have a growing site, sooner or later you will have to make the move to a dedicated server and take on the learning curve that goes with it. Be prepared, do your homework before you have to make the move.

If anybody out there is using a VPS service, please get in touch and let us know how it is working for you.
